W. Truett Smith (1917-2001)

W. Truett Smith

Biography: (1917-2001)

W. Truett Smith was a West Texas native from Laredo, Texas. He served in WWII as an Army Medic and was decorated with Two Silver Stars & Two Bronze Stars.

Truett graduated from law school in 1949 and moved to San Angelo with his wife Sunny. Truett was a founding member of Smith, Rose, Finley, PC. He credited growing up in Laredo with his ability to speak Spanish, which allowed him to represent many clients in the San Angelo area who did not speak English. He built a thriving practice and continued to serve those clients his entire career. Still practicing law after more than 50 years, Truett was a well-respected oil and gas attorney, representing families owning large and small West Texas Ranches. He also served the legal community as a member of many commissions and associations, including chairman of the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. Truett passed away on April 29, 2001.
